Each of us is a unique individual, and each relationship we have is unlike any other. Some of the most special relationships I have in my life are with our artisans. Many of these individuals, who began as strangers and evolved into business partners, are now some of my dearest friends. It is such a blessing to have friends across the globe to visit and share in the joy of creation.

Our artisan-crafted treasures, made one at a time, have been touched by the spirit of these creators, who delight in knowing that the work of their hands brings joy to others. Just think about how many palms these items pass through before they reach you. First, they are born from the hands of the artisans, admired and cradled by our merchants, packed and shipped by our diligent warehouse employees, and then delivered by dedicated postal workers right into your waiting hands. In our ever-changing digital world, there is so much sacredness in that chain of caring and connection.

Talk to our artisans and you will feel their primal urge to create. They will tell you of their belief that each work of their hands has been touched by their human spirit. And, they will tell of the joy that comes from knowing that each work will be cherished by its new caretaker.

We, too, feel something soulful as we handcraft these collections and bring them to life on these pages. If we touch you, please tell us. In doing so, you bring joy to our lives.

What is liberty if not the freedom to reach for the best within each of us? And, what greater blessing can there be in life than appreciating the privilege to assist in some small way in creating the opportunities for others to become the best they can be?
We have such deep respect for each of the artisans with whom we collaborate. It is such an honor to facilitate their work.
What joy we had developing our new “Stars and Stripes” collection with Weronika, Jacek, and their son, Oskar, in their buzzing workshop in Boleslawiec, Poland. To think, just a few decades ago, this family and their colleagues lived in a political regime that lacked even the most basic personal liberties, and now they are thriving as entrepreneurs, as artists, and as human beings.
Here in America, Uno Alla Volta celebrates the “little guy” (or more often “little gal”) every day. So many of our artisans are Americans, in their second careers. Following exits from the corporate world, they are finding fulfillment and sustenance with the work of their hands.

“Oh, Mom!” the teenage me would say and roll her eyes. And, Mom would say to me, “I will get my revenge one day when you have teenage daughters.”
And, now my daughters are fully grown, one launched in the publishing biz (children and young adult fiction) and one in college, and I have to say if this is revenge, my does it taste sweet!
I don’t think I ever properly appreciated my Mom until I became a mother myself. The reason I could roll my eyes all those years ago (and still do today) is because the relationship we have with our mothers is among the most nurturing of all human connections. It is safe to be the most obnoxious version of ourselves because when we are at our best, our Moms ooze pride from every pore.
While my mother’s mother has not been a physical presence here on this earth since just a few years after my own birth, I do know my grandmother’s presence is with my Mom always and has helped shape her into the incredible mother she is to me and my sisters, and “Meema” to her eight grandchildren.
Mom, I love you to the moon and back!

Everywhere I look, trees are starting to bud. As nature’s cycle starts anew, I cannot help but feel my own personal sense of renewal.
The spring returns to my step, I find myself smiling more often than not, and there’s almost a euphoric quality to my optimism. After the long New England winter, I feel young again (despite my fifty-two years).
Is it any wonder that most of the world’s religions, ancient and modern, celebrate rebirth, fertility, and liberation at this time?

I will never forget the moment of becoming a mom for the first time and discovering the emotion of love for my daughter. Until I was a parent, no one could have described to me the feeling of love for one’s child. It was as different from the romantic love I have for my husband and partner in life as it was from my love for my parents or sisters.

Each form of love is unique, and there truly are no words to describe what we feel, but we know those feelings create a deep, often indestructible emotional bond.

I know my life is richer than I could have ever imagined because of those whom I love and those who love me.
